Early Childhood programs at Memorial

The two greatest predictors in the educational success of a child are involved parents and a solid preschool experience

What is good preschool education?

Good preschool education seeks to develop the whole child. Mentally, physically, socially, spiritually...

In partnership with parents, Memorial's early childhood programs focus on the optimal development of the whole child. We offer three opportunities to give your child the "Advantage Year". The advantages are many, but our special strength is that we limit all classes to no more than 15 students to ensure individualized attention from experienced, certified teachers.

Preschool

Our program follows the principle that "play is the child's work." In an enriched environment, skillful teachers guide a child to learn by doing. Activity centers help each child to develop new skills, small groups focus on the socialization and direction following aspects of learning. Arts, crafts and drama provide opportunities to try different media, materials and roles. Field trips enable children to look beyond the home and school, to see their place in an expanding community. Christian principles are "discovered" in stories from the Bible and practiced in daily interactions. Sessions are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Pre-Kindergarten

The program is designed as an extension of the preschool but emphasizes readiness activities. It fosters the development of small motor skills and concentrates on higher order thinking skills, relationships and expressions. In this class, the children continue to learn by doing, but the activities have a more ordered structure. Large muscle exercises are continued, but small muscle activity is stressed in art, puppetry, crafts and mathematical manipulatives. Books and literature continue to be a strong focus with the added emphasis of child created stories. Sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
